Butchery

Old world style butchery

Custom cuts and highly personal service

The Village Butcher has been providing meat to the Upper Valley region and beyond for over 50 years. Prior owner George Racicot began as a butcher at the age of 15 in his fathers’ shop, and in 1972 opened the Village Butcher in downtown Woodstock Vermont, not far from where he was born. In 2003, a then 18 yr. old Josh Coyle joined the team to apprentice with George and learn the craft hands on. With an emphasis on custom cut meat, The Village Butcher became well known all over New England.

In 2021, The Village Butcher changed ownership (but not names), with Josh becoming Head Butcher. Today you will find an old world style butchery with highly personal service, focused on cut and grind to order meats, and a vast selection of local beef, pork, lamb, veal, poultry and more. We work closely with our suppliers to support those in our local agricultural community, (the majority of all our meats are locally sourced) and buy only meats from humanely raised animals free from GMO, and without the use of growth hormones and antibiotics.

We make our own sausages (in link and grind) meatloaf mix, French tourtiere pies, daily chickens on the rotisserie, and more. We love spending time with our customers and doing our part to fill your plate.

Holidays and events

We’re happy to provide our community with custom cut meats for all of your holiday meals. Whether it’s a rib roast, tenderloin, crown roast of pork, spiral ham, leg of lamb, or steak tips, we’re ready for the holidays. We also serve accompanying sides and desserts out of kitchen.
